Most parental correction comes down to:

Parent is trying to covertly die.

Child is trying to overtly live.

Parent 'corrects' the child with violence in order to civilize it so it
will get with the program.

Then child begins to act up "Well y'all wanna die, let's do it in
style!", so the parent 'corrects' the child so that it gets with the
program which is to die silently with a smile on the face.
